TOKYO, JAPAN — The Global Institute for Hydrogen and Fuel Cells (GIHF) announced today that Tokyo Metropolitan University (TMU) has officially joined its global H2U Network. The announcement was made by Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike during her address at the Hydrogen Energy Conference for Action (HENCA) Tokyo 2026, the metropolis’s flagship international summit for hydrogen energy social implementation.

By joining the H2U Network, TMU becomes an integral partner of GIHF, joining forces with leading academic and research institutions around the world. This network-driven framework is designed to foster cross-border scientific engagement, address critical technical gaps, and advance comprehensive workforce education essential for building a global clean energy economy.

The partnership follows discussions between the TMU, Governor Koike, and Dr. Sunita Satyapal, President of GIHF, to align the institute's expanding network with Tokyo’s ambitious sustainability and climate goals.

"We are deeply honored to have Tokyo Metropolitan University join the H2U Network, announced by Governor Koike at the HENCA conference in Tokyo," said Dr. Sunita Satyapal. "Tokyo is a global leader in advancing sustainable energy technologies including hydrogen and fuel cells. By connecting TMU with universities and research institutes worldwide through the H2U ecosystem, we are establishing a cross-border scientific foundation to connect students and researchers, and accelerate education and innovations globally."

As part of the H2U Network, Tokyo Metropolitan University will engage in open scientific exchange, collaborative research programs, and global talent cultivation alongside a peer group of leading international universities.
